Pestilential Painting: The Lazy Person's Guide to painting Plague Marines

Welcome back to the Vault! I've spent my recent hobby time completing the first unit of Plague Marines for my burgeoning Death Guard force! I'm pleased with how they've turned out and so I thought I'd capture the paint scheme down for future reference. It's pretty straight forward to follow and unusually there isn't an edge highlight in sight!

Here's the Guide.

Initial Steps
1) Prime the model with Death Guard Green.
2) Paint all armour trim and icons, etc. with Retributor Gold.

Weapons and Chain Mail
1) Paint with Leadbelcher.
2) Apply Nuln Oil wash.

Tentacles
1) Base coat Screamer Pink.
2) Layer Emperors Children Pink.
3) Apply Baal Red wash.

Horns/Bones/Teeth/Skulls
1) Basecoat Rakarth Flesh.
2) Apply Skeleton Horde Contrast.
3) Highlight Ushabti Bone.
(Note you can reapply Ushabti Bone after the Seraphim Sepia Wash).

Smoke, Plasma Cells and Gloopy Bits
1) Apply Moot Green.

Cloth
1) Apply Mechrite Red.

Leather/Wood
1) Apply Calthan Brown.

Lenses
1) Basecoat Tau Sept Ochre.
2) Apply Yriel Yellow.

Flesh
1) Basecoat Rakarth Flesh.
2) Apply Darkoath Flesh Contrast.

Wash Stage
1) Apply Typhus Corrosion in patches to armour and weapons as desired.
2) Wash all the model bar horns, bones, flesh and tentacles with Argrax Earthshade.
3) When the Argrax is dry, wash all the model bar the tentacles and flesh with Seraphim Sepia.
4) Reapply Ushabti Bone if necessary.

Basing: Mud
1) Basecoat the base with Chardonite Granite.
2) Apply Armageddon Dust texture paint.
3) When the texture paint is dry, apply Snakebite Leather Contrast.

Basing: Slime Pools
1) Basecoat Knarloc Green.
2) Apply Warpstone Green.
3) Apply Moot Green.
4) Apply 2 coats of Nurgles Rot Technical paint.

Finally; tidy the rim of the base with Chardonite Granite.

I've really enjoyed painting these models; there's a great variety of surfaces/textures and I like the contrast between the "pop" of the tentacles/slime and the grimy, dulled armour. I'm looking forward to tackling the next unit on the list (one of the characters I think), and of course I'll blog the results!
