40K Mayhem Tournament: What to take?

I play 40K at the First Founding Club in Chessington, and the two highlights of our Grim Dark calendar are the Mayhem and Octoberfest tournaments (can you guess when they occur?).  I've been scratching my head for a little while as to which army to take to the next Mayhem and I've decided this weekend.

Drumroll ...

Fifty Word Fiction: Notable locations of The Gift

Continuing from the first Fifty Word Fiction article I've come up with a number of brief descriptions of locations to be found within The Gift campaign setting.

I've managed to write an entry every day, even if it's only been a rushed 5 or 10 minutes.  The process has been enjoyable, rewarding and actually very surprising. Apparently The Gift holds an annual football match, has a band of close-knit Border Troopers with their own slang, and is home to a very eccentric rancher. I didn't know any of these things a week ago, and this is my campaign!

All good campaigns need a Standing Stone or two!

Board Games Night at The Great Indoors

I'm very lucky to have two local games clubs right on my doorstep, and on Monday night I popped along to the monthly Board Games Night at The Great Indoors club in Chessington, Surrey.

Fifty Word Fiction: Generating background material for The Gift.

I’m really bad at writing my gaming ideas down; especially anything related to background material for my D&D campaigns and adventures. However, I’m sure I’ve read that common advice given to aspiring writers is “Just write. Get in the habit. Do it daily. Discipline yourself”.

I don’t see myself as future novelist any time soon (I’ll leave that to the talented and deserves to be published Joy Kluver , see the blog links) but maybe I can use this approach to generate and document some ideas for The Gift campaign setting and some of my other RPGs.

Caption writing counts doesn't it?

March To Victory: A Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team Tournament

I will be hosting First Founding Club’s inaugural March to Victory Warhammer 40,000 Kill Team Tournament alongside some open gaming on Saturday the 4th March 2017 between 12:00 and 18:00.

The event is being coordinated and registration handled on Facebook on the Club's Page but I thought posting a more legible version of the Kill Team tournament pack here would be useful for attendees. If you aren't a First Founding regular but fancy attending drop a comment below!

The Gift: Setting the Scene

Back again? Wonderful, because I've got another post for your enjoyment.

This time I'm covering some Dungeons & Dragons (or D&D whatever you prefer; if I use your non-preferred term imagine I'm using the other; you're a gamer, shouldn't be hard for you).

I want to share something about a campaign setting I'm working on (tentatively titled "The Gift"), and some of the thinking that's gone into it.

The Lazy Person's Guide to painting Imperial Guard

Hello again!

I was originally just going to talk about the January Painting Challenge I've signed up for, but I thought I'd go the extra mile and knock up a quick painting guide as well.

The challenge is to paint a unit of Warhammer 40000 Imperial Guard or Inquisition troops to support a narrative campaign running on Bolter & Chainsword. I've pledged a Cadian Heavy Weapon Squad with Lascannons.

Cadians with big guns.

Hello World!

Hello you lovely people!

Thanks for taking the time to check out my little corner of the Blogoverse. Let me tell you what this is all about. I've been a table top gamer for many, many years; I love all sorts of games and over the last few years I've posted on various forums and groups (usually under my gaming alter ego Varchilde).  For 2017 I thought I'd try something a little different and collate my thoughts and posts in a central repository (the Vault). Thus Varchilde's Vault has been born.
