Frostgrave: The Scuttletide

Welcome back to the Vault! I've been continuing to work through the back log of fantasy gaming models, and in this post I'd like to share the Scuttletide which I've recently completed.

This is a single piece model from the Gloomspite Gitz Endless Spells box, and it's quite big, being 8" long and 2" across at its widest.

The model was quite quick and simple to paint:
  • Prime black.
  • Dry brush the spiders red through to orange.
  • Paint grey seer over the ground.
  • Apply Snakebite Leather to the rocks, then dry brush Desert Yellow.
  • Apply Skeleton horde to the skulls.
  • Apply Calthan Brown to the edges of the base.
In Age of Sigmar the Scuttletide moves around the board and potentially inflicts wounds on nearby units.  Given the size of the model I'm not convinced that moving it around will work particularly well on a decently set up Frostgrave table (i.e. one with ample terrain) so some alternative rules are in order.

Here are some suggestions, which as usual can be overlaid onto another scenario:

Spiders, why does it have to be spiders?
The Scuttletide model is placed as a piece of terrain during setup.  Whilst the spiders themselves are not apparently dangerous, it takes courage to place oneself among the arachnids.  If a model approaches within 1" of the Scuttletide it must make a 10+ Will Save. If the model fails the Will Save it treats the Scuttletide as Impassable Terrain (i.e. it may not cross the Scuttletide), otherwise it treats the Scuttletide as rough ground).

A Plague of Spiders
The Scuttletide model is placed as a piece of terrain during setup.  The Scuttletide comprises a multitude of biting, irritating vermin of varying sizes.  If a model is within 3" of the Scuttletide it is treated as affected by a Plague of Insects (Summoner) Spell.

I hope you've enjoyed this post; I'll be back soon with some more ideas for using the Malign Sorcery models in Frostgrave.
