I've had a single model left to paint from scratch; an Armorium Cherub to fetch and carry for my Devestator Squad:
A home for the ramblings of a tabletop gamer geek & hobby butterfly. RPGs, Wargames, Board & Card games, I try and play them all!

Power Armoured Paint: It's all about the Base
Welcome back to the Vault once more my fellow Frater. I've been busily finishing off the last few items on my painting list for next months Doubles tournament at First Founding (bar any last minute changes of mind of course; such things have happened before).

Maelstrom of War 2019: First thoughts
A belated and brief post this week; my Carcharodons Astra faced off against Duncan's Space Wolves in a Chapter Approved 2019 Maelstrom of War Mission called Confined Command. This mission uses the new CA19 Maelstrom of War deck construction rules, and they are very intriguing.
In summary, once you have seen your opponents roster you construct a tailored Objectives deck with a minimum of 18 unique cards. At a simplistic level this means if your opponent doesn't have any Psykers you don't need to include Witch Hunter for example.

Frostgrave: The Scrapskuttle Cauldron
Welcome to the darkest, deepest chambers of the Vault. This week I have been working on a few gaming and hobby projects; rolling up a character for my first game of 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons (I'm very excited to play this), and working on my latest Intercessor squad (edge highlighting power armour).
I like to listen to podcasts and You Tube videos while I paint and Squidmar Miniatures recently posted a fun video involving a bunch of different commission artists working on the contents of the Warhammer Underworlds Goblin Warband. This is a collection of nine really characterful miniatures, and I reckon you can build a decent Frostgrave Warband out of the set.
I've had the Gloomspite Gitz (aka Warhammer Goblins) Endless Spells kit in my shame pile for some time to paint up for Frostgrave, and one model in particular struck me as being useful; the Scrapskuttle Cauldron. So in advance of grabbing the Warband, I've built and painted the Cauldron!

Power Armoured Paint: 2020's first models and some lessons learnt
The holiday season is over, and the new year stretches ahead! I've already painted a few models to kick off the 2020 tally and reached some interesting conclusions along the way.
First up is a Carcharodons Astra Primaris Lieutenant. I think with a Lieutenant finally painted I've officially got a Primaris force :P

Varchilde's Vault is Three Years Old
It's time for the first post of 2020 and I'd like to cover my hobby highlights from the previous year and discuss some ideas for the year ahead.
The majority of my war gaming time has been spent on 40K, having played approximately 35 games. Kill Team follows up waaay in the distance (games played in single figures), and a solitary foray into Frostgrave as I tried out the Perilous Dark solo rules. I have played some board games (I am very enamoured of Lords of Waterdeep at the moment), and we've played a number of sessions of The Gift D&D campaign.
